CEO Platform officially launched at World Green Economy Summit (WGES)
The CEO Platform for Green Growth in MENA (“The CEO Platform”), a business leadership group that brings together business leaders and champions of green growth to engage with regional and global policy makers, officially launched on 15 April in Dubai during the World Green Economy Summit (WGES).
The launch of the CEO Platform commenced with the CEOs of Etihad Energy Services and Dubai Carbon Centre for Excellence signing up as members.
Commenting on the launch of the CEO Platform for Green Growth in MENA, Waleed Salman, Co-Founder of the CEO Platform, Chairman of the Dubai Green Economy Partnership and Executive Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, DEWA, said:
“The green economy today is the only solution, and the CEO Platform is a much needed organisation as we try to bring together leaders from the private and public sectors in order to drive a progressive green growth policy agenda throughout the region. This platform is the first step, and within a year, I am optimistic we will have many CEOs committed to sustainable energy and the green economy”.
The meeting was also addressed by the Chairman of the CEO Platform and H.E. Hakima El Haite, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Energy, Mining and Environment, in charge of Environment, Morocco.
During the launch event, leaders in the field of sustainable energy and green economy including Shermine Dajani, CEO, Panmed Energy, Jordan, Ivano Ianelli, CEO, Dubai Carbon Centre for Excellence, Volker Soppelsa, Sustainability Policy Advisor of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group (ADSG), Vahid Fotuhi, President and Founder of the Middle East Solar Industry Association and Stefania Romano, Chief of Operations of the CEO Platform / Director of Italian Trust Fund animated the panel session discussing the power of business leadership in catalyzing change for the green economy.
The CEO Platform has identified three key areas of focus, including energy, waste and water.
Stefania Romano said; “We need to create a constructive dialogue across the region, as well as real actions and solutions. CEO Platform will connect the region in the sphere of green growth through linking green partners and committed stakeholders with a common goal.”
The panel also highlighted the importance of creating dialogue around innovation and change, and bringing experiences from around the region together to form a new narrative towards green policy, as well as the importance of engaging with business as well as government leaders on the path to green growth.
