Formalising partnership

The Dubai Green Economy Partnership (DGEP) and the CEO Platform for Green Growth in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Warsaw, Poland on November 19, 2013 during the telling backdrop of the 19th Conference of the Parties (COP19) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The program is initiated and supported by the Italian Ministry of the Environment, Land and Sea, under the leadership of Dr. Corrado Clini, Director General of the Ministry.

The MoU aims at promoting cooperation in the field of green economic development solutions such as but not limited to renewable energy, energy efficiency and smart grids, demand management, sustainable transportation, waste, water and green buildings, and to foster collaboration, knowledge-sharing and innovative actions across the region.

The agreement was signed by Ms. Stefania Romano, Chief of Operations of the CEO Platform and Head of the Italian Trust Fund in the REC and Mr. Waleed Ali Ahmed Salman, DGEP Chairman, during a ceremony within the Business, Finance and Government Forum during COP19.

The event was attended by several high-level dignitaries, including Mr. Saeed Mohammed Ahmad Al Tayer, CEO and Managing Director of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority; Mr. Ivano Iannelli, CEO of the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence; and Mrs. Marta Szigeti Bonifert, Executive Director of the Regional Environmental Center.

The CEO Platform in collaboration with DGEP will engage business leaders in the Arab world to support long-term, sustainable green growth and accelerating the adoption of green technologies, products and services in the region.
