Secretary General of the Higher Council for Privatization of the Republic of Lebanon
Ziad Hayek is Secretary General of the Higher Council for Privatization of the Republic of Lebanon. He has worked on reforming the country’s power and telecoms sectors and has lobbied for the enactment of PPP legislation since 2007. Following the hostilities of 2006, he organized the Stockholm Donors’ Conference, helping to raise US$940 million for war relief and reconstruction.
Prior to that, Mr. Hayek was Chief Executive of Lonbridge Associates Ltd. (London), a telecom and technology investment banking firm. Positions held previously include: Senior Managing Director of Bear Stearns & Co. (New York and London); President of Indosuez Mexico, S.A. (Mexico City); Vice President of Salomon Brothers (New York); and Vice President of Citibank (New York), where he was Head of the International Corporate Finance Division's Securitization Department, after having been Acting Regional Treasurer for West Africa and a foreign exchange and derivatives trader in Bahrain.
Mr. Hayek is Chairman of the board of directors of Sté. Des Eaux de Tarshish, S.a.l. and Executive Chairman of the Alephbet Foundation. He is a member of the boards of directors of Banque de l’Industrie et du Travail S.a.l. and of C.A.T. International Ltd. He had previously served on a number of corporate boards in the US, Mexico and Switzerland.
Mr. Hayek has an MA in International Management from the University of Texas at Dallas, a BBA from the University of Houston, and has studied business administration at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, in Mexico. He is a professor of International Finance at Université La Sagesse and has spoken extensively at conferences, seminars and workshops both in Lebanon and abroad. Mr. Hayek speaks 11 languages.
